The Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley graced the inaugural flight to Gelephu domestic airport as the Chief Guest today. It took about 25 minutes for the flight to land in Gelephu after it took off from Paro International Airport.

Thousands including some from the neighbouring dzongkhags had come to witness the event.

Speaking to the people gathered, Lyonchhoen, said today is a day for all the Bhutanese to feel proud.

The Drukair has not worked out the flight schedule right now as the infrastructures are yet to be completed. However, the office said, the one way airfare from Paro to Gelephu will come to about US$ 170.

The airport has been constructed on an area spanning over 500 acres and is located about six kilometres away from Gelephu town towards Sarpang.
