Every year, Yudhiri river in Trashigang cuts-off Phongmey and Sagteng Gewogs from rest of the Dzongkhag. Following heavy rainfall last weekend, movement of both people and vehicles has been affected since Saturday.
The swollen river has also washed away the ropeway container, which was set-up as an alternative for people’s movement.
Speaking to BBS over the phone, Phongmey Gup Palden Dorji said there is no other way for the people to cross the river. He said only if rain stops then they will construct a temporary bridge.
People are also advised not to travel at this time. “The river has washed away around eight people in the past. So due to this risk, we have stopped people from travelling so far,” said the Gup.
The recent heavy down pour has also damaged some paddy fields in Radhi Gewog and disrupted drinking and irrigation water channels.
