The people of Lauri Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar say their Gewog Centre (GC) road needs to be blacktopped. The 36 kilometres GC road from Minjiwoong till Lauri was opened in 2015.

Lauri is one of the remote gewogs in the dzongkhag.

Of the 59 kilometres of road from Jomotshangkha till Lauri, 23 kilometres of the road till Serthig Gewog has been blacktopped. The rest of the road till Lauri is riddled with potholes making it an uncomfortable ride.

“We are thankful to the government for clearing road. And we will be more grateful if the road is blacktopped,” Lungten Tshering, one of the villagers said.

“It will benefit us if the road is blacktopped. Right now, it is inconvenient travelling on a bumpy road especially when we have patients with us,” Sangay Gombu, another villager, said.

The Department of Roads (DoR) in Samdrup Jongkhar said more than Nu 100 M is needed to blacktop the Lauri GC road and they will propose the budget to the new government.

From 11 gewogs in the dzongkhag, eight GC roads have been blacktopped so far.
