Participants-trained-to-Interpret,-investigate-Buddhists-texts-and-ideasTwenty six monks, researchers, translators and lecturers attended a nine-day training programme on ‘From Manuscripts and Xylographs to Modern Editions: Buddhist Textual Scholarship in Theory and Practice’. The participants were trained to interpret and investigate Buddhists texts and ideas.

The training was conducted by Dr. Dorji Wangchuk, a Professor from the University of Hamburg in Germany and his team. The Professor said it was difficult to understand and appreciate the intellectual history and culture of Bhutan without fully understanding Buddhist philosophical ideas transmitted in the form of written texts.

He added that the current workshop have set a strong impulse for textual scholarship in Bhutan.

Her Royal Highness the Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck graced the closing ceremony today. Her Royal Highness awarded certificates to the participants.

The workshop was organized jointly by the Khyentse Centre for Tibetan Buddhist Textual Scholarship, University of Hamburg, Germany, and the Centre for Bhutan Studies and GNH Research.
