The only college for astrology in the country, the Pangrizampa College for Astrology celebrated its 25th anniversary today. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck graced the event. The college was established as an educational institute to learn and enhance traditional astrology in the country. The college in collaboration with the Zhung Dratshang organized the event.

Marking the event, Her Majesty the Queen Mother along with Gyalsey Truelku and the Prime Minister launched the new silver jubilee logo. Certificates of loyalty and dedication were also awarded to former seven teachers and principals.

“The certificates awarded for loyalty and dedication will encourage the existing teachers at the college. It will give them a boost to do better. I think this initiative will go a long way in instilling dedication and loyalty,” said Yangka, a former teacher of the college.

According to the organizers, the 25th anniversary also marks the importance of developing and strengthening astrology in the country.

“For the last 25 years, we have been responsible for deciding dates for important events. Besides, we also provide people with yearly predictions about health, wealth, career and many more. We also have been conducting jana chidoe kurim which is the nine-day ritual performed for the wellbeing of all sentient beings and for the peace and prosperity in the country,” said Sonam Rinchen, the vice-principal of the college.

So far, more than three hundred monks have graduated from the college who are serving as astrologers in various parts of the country.

Besides Pangrizampa College for Astrology, there are two astrology schools in Trashi Yangtse and Gelephu.
