The Office of the Attorney General filed a case against the National Housing Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL). The case is registered with the Thimphu District Court. The case pertains to the collapse of a streetlight pole that injured a 58-year-old woman at Changjiji housing colony in April this year.
According to the OAG, it is an offence of criminal nuisance. As per the Penal Code, it is graded as a misdemeanour. The woman suffered an injury on her head and leg and has been in a wheelchair since the incident.
The OAG submitted to the court that the NHDCL did not carry out proper maintenance and monitoring. Therefore, according to the OAG, the corporation should pay more than Nu 4 M as compensation, medical expenditure and loss of earning capacity to the victim.
