Windstorm-InsuranceThe Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited (RICBL) office in Samdrup Jongkhar has completed the assessment of the houses affected by the recent windstorm in the dzongkhag. The RICBL says it will have to pay around Nu.5,00,000 in insurance money to the affected households.

Some 60 houses in Samdrup Jongkhar were affected by the windstorm that struck last week. It includes schools and Lhakhangs.

Of that, only 52 are insured with the RICBL. But only 28 houses that suffered major damage will receive insurance money.

The RICBL says the rest 24 have suffered only minor damages and are not entitled for insurance claim.

The RICBL Manager in Samdrup Jongkhar said they hope to be able to release the money within two weeks time.

“We have completed the ground works and have sent the report to our head office in Thimphu. It might take one to two weeks to release the money,” said RICBL’s Branch Manager, Ugyen Dorji.

The windstorm affected five out of 11 gewogs in Samdrup Jongkhar.
