The government says there are no safety issues with the recently bought single-engine helicopter. This was in response to a question posed by Panbang MP, Dorji Wangdi in the National Assembly, yesterday.
MP Dorji Wangdi said the previous government had tried to purchase a similar helicopter but had scraped the idea because of safety issues.
Information and Communications Minister, DN Dhungyel said the government preferred single-engine helicopter as double-engine helicopter would not function well in some parts of the country.
They also sought experts’ advice from three renowned companies. Economic affairs minister, Norbu Wangchuk said Airbus had advised that single-engine helicopter was suitable for the country.
Foreign Minister, Damcho Dorji said they had conducted a thorough research on the viability of single-engine helicopter in the country. “Also, a double-engine helicopter costs more than single-engine helicopter.”
