Trongsa renovates 133 chortensCoinciding with the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Trongsa Dzongkhag and people of five gewogs in the district renovated 133 chortens in the dzongkhag. They also replaced the stolen relics.

The government had allotted each chorten Nu 45,000 for restoration. Of the five gewogs, Nubi used Nu 1 M from the gewog development grant for renovations.

Dzongkhag Tshogdu’s Chairman, Tashi Pelden said they are following a standard system for renovation.

The Officiating Cultural Officer, Pema said they are not allowed to change the structural design of chortens. “We did not rebuild the entire structure.” Instead, he said they tried to retain the original structures by restoring only the damaged parts.

A little more than Nu 2 M was spent to replace relics and whitewash the chortens.

Hundreds of chortens, mostly Manidangrim and Jangchub, have been vandalized in Trongsa.
