Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graces 7th Camp Raven closing

Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graced the closing ceremony of the 7th edition of Camp Raven in Thimphu yesterday. More than 600 children of the armed force personnel took part in the two-week long programme.

The camp engaged the children in a wide range of activities including sports. The programme also invited guest speakers to talk to the participants on various topics and issues.

The Film Association of Bhutan, Voluntary Artists’ Studio of Thimphu (VAST), Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation and a dance volunteer group from Thailand supported the programme this time.

The Camp Raven was initiated in 2012 upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King to allow the children of the armed force personnel to spend their holidays productively.

“It is the wise wisdom and initiative of His Majesty The King,” RBG Major Chopen Dorji said. “The camp allows the children of the armed force personnel to spend their winter vacation meaningfully, without indulging in any harmful activities, which will spoil their lives.”

Various cultural performances were staged as a part of the closing event.

Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen also awarded prizes to the winners of sports and dance competitions held during the camp.

The winners and runners-up will get an opportunity to go on a trip to Gelephu and Punakha this month.
