Parliament session concludes

The 8th session of the parliament concluded today. The closing ceremony was graced by His Majesty the King and the Queen.

In the last thirteen days, the joint sitting of the parliament passed the Tobacco Control Amendment Bill, Child Adoption Bill, the Sales Tax, Customs and Excise (amendment) Bill and the Public Finance Amendment Bill. The two houses approved the revised salary of the Tshogpas.

The National Assembly endorsed Druk Gyalpo’s Relief Fund Bill, the Disaster Management Bill and the RAMSAR international convention of wet land.  The members also endorsed the Consumer Protection Bill and the Education City Bill.

In the National Council the members adopted the National Flag Bill, Bhutan Institute of Medical Sciences Bill and legalised the use of electric fencing in the country.

Speaking at the closing, the National Assembly speaker said that the session was a successful one.

The session concluded with the members of Parliament offering Tashi Moenlam to His Majesty the King.
