The first Judo Dojo Centre was inaugurated in Pelkhil School in Thimphu this afternoon as part of Japan week which begins today. It is the first sports facility in Bhutan built and supported by the Japanese government under cultural grant assistance.

The construction of the Centre started in 2019. The Bhutan Judo Association currently has 200 members. The Japan week was formally launched in 2006 during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Japan. The Japanese embassy in New Delhi has been organizing Japan week in Bhutan annually except last year due to the pandemic.
