More than 2,000 students and primary contacts of Druk School in Thimphu were tested today. An eight-year-old student of the school tested positive for COVID-19 on an antigen test yesterday triggering a complete lockdown in Thimphu.

Students and parents of Druk school came for cluster testing in four different locations in four Megazones in Thimphu. According to the Health Ministry, the results will be out tomorrow.

The eight-year-old student came to the flu clinic yesterday with symptoms like cough and headache. Although the student tested negative on the RT-PCR, the antigen test showed a high load of viral infection. To contain the spread of the virus, if any, the student and the close contacts are home quarantined.

Meanwhile, the lockdown in Thimphu is planned for three days. However, Health Minister Dechen Wangmo said the lockdown period will depend on the results of today’s testing.

According to the health ministry, the parents and an uncle of the student operate ADC General Mart and Hem Restaurant in Babesa. People who visited these two shops were also tested today.
