Feb 29, 2012

The 400-year-old three storied Paga Goenpa in Chhukha Dzongkhag was razed to the ground by a fire today. The mishap occurred at around 4 am this morning. Monks at the Goenpa managed to save some of the sacred relics. The fire was brought under control around 11 am by the police, forest officials and the public.

The Goenpa Lam said the fire could have been caused by electric short circuit.

The Goenpa, founded by Lam Kinga Jamtsho, was handed over to the Dratshang two months ago by the public. The Chhukha police are investigating the cause of the fire.

The Goenpa has 21 monks and four teachers including the Lam.
