NA adopts Pay Structure Reform Bill, but without Communication Allowance

The National Assembly has once again cancelled the communication allowance for parliamentarians, heads of constitutional offices, and other heads along with civil servants. The National Council had recommended the house reinstate the allowance. The NA adopted the Pay Structure Reform Bill of Bhutan today. 

Bangladesh Dollar crisis worries Orange exporters in Gelephu

Orange exporters in Gelephu have started exporting oranges to Bangladesh. However, they are stressed that the ongoing dollar crisis in Bangladesh may disrupt their business. The export of oranges started on Monday, so the orange depot in Gelephu is abuzz with labourers packing oranges in wooden crates. According to the exporters, the yield is better than in the past years.

NA adopts UNTOC

Bhutan will now become a member of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime. This comes as the National Assembly adopted the convention and its supplementary protocol today. The convention will strengthen national measures and international cooperation in preventing and combating the trafficking of persons and other transnational crimes.  

Bhutanese Team wins Bronze in South Asian Karate Championship

Two Bhutanese Karate athletes have brought home three bronze medals from the South Asian Karate Championship, which was recently held in Sri Lanka. Tshering Phuntsho secured bronze in the Kumite senior category after losing to Pakistan in the semi-finals. Pema Dorji secured bronze in both the senior Kumite and the senior Kata categories. The championship saw around 200 participants from Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Electric poles and sagging power lines pose danger to residents – SJ

Electricity poles and sagging power lines near the settlement of Dungkarling chiwog at Phuntshothang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar are causing inconveniences to the residents. According to them, on windy days, the power lines trigger sparks when it comes in contact with the areca nut trees posing threat to the residents. They want the Bhutan Power Corporation to realign the power lines and poles.

Closure of Tali Extended Classroom in Zhemgang leaves parents perplexed

The Tali Extended Classroom or ECR in Nangkhor Gewog of Zhemgang will be permanently closed down from the next academic year. According to education officials, the reason for the closure is due to declining enrolment. However, this has come as a blow to parents whose children are studying at the ECR.

RAA reforms its Training center into an All-Accessible One
