Pineapple as an alternative cash crop for Radhi farmers- Trashigang

Owing to a good market, pineapple cultivation is slowly picking up in some of the districts in the east. This time, it is the farmer's group of Radhi Gewog in Trashigang, who started growing pineapple as an alternative cash crop. The group cultivates vegetables besides paddy cultivation.

UNDP’s Digital Job Creation Challenge see about 500 applicants

The United Nations Development Programme has recognised 25 youth for their ideas to create jobs. The Digital Job Creation Challenge organized by the UNDP in partnership with the labour ministry and the De-suung Skilling Programme saw close to 500 young applicants. It was organised to provide youth with IT tools and technology to bridge the supply and demand gap in the job market.

Community centre without operator for several months- Trong in Zhemgang

Established more than a decade ago, the Community Centre of Trong Gewog in Zhemgang has almost ceased to benefit the residents. It has been several months without a facilitator at the centre to provide the services to the people. Community Centers were established across the country to increase efficiency and transparency in public service delivery through the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs).

Highland areas wake up to a heavy snowfall

People in some highland areas in the country woke up to thick blankets of snow this morning. At Lunana in Gasa, it was almost knee-deep while some areas in Bumthang were covered in light flakes. They say it is quite unusual to receive snowfall in October.

Sephu farmers struggling to get a good price for cabbage

With the markets across the border flooded with local cabbages, farmers of Sephu in Wangdue Phodrang are struggling to get a good price to sell the vegetable to the FCB. They say the price this time around is half of that of last year’s. Farmers normally sell their vegetables to the FCB who then export them to India.

Laishingri farmers want electricity connection to ease burden of rural life

Royal Highland Festival lifts spirits of highland communities

The 5th Royal Highland Festival in Laya, Gasa has come to end. Thousands of people took part in the two-day event that concluded today. The festival also provided the opportunity for highlanders from different communities to showcase their different culture and products. People of the highland communities from ten districts took part in the festival.
