Preserving the native birds – Tsirang

There was a time when almost every family in the rural areas of the country owned at least a few native chickens. But over the years, the practice has slowly disappeared. This is because of easy access to poultry products. And the poultry farmers prefer raising imported birds owing to better egg and meat production. Holding on to the age-old culture, a farmer’s group in Tsirang is striving to preserve the native bird.

NEC proposes increasing penalties for illegal waste dumping

There will be no more easy way out if you are found dumping wastes illegally. You could be fined up to Nu 30,000. This is if the National Environment Commission’s revision of Waste Prevention and Regulation 2012 is approved. Man sentenced to 10 months for sexual harassment

A senior official working for one of the project offices in Thimphu was found guilty of sexual harassment. Kesang Wangchuk was sentenced to 10 months in prison for harassing a woman who was working in the same project. The Thimphu District Court passed the judgement today.
