Samuh wins a copyright infringement case

The Thimphu District Court today ordered three individuals to pay compensation ranging from Nu 100,000 to about Nu 400,000 in a copyright infringement case. The Samuh MediaTech filed the case after the three individuals shared and uploaded movies belonging to Samuh on different online platforms.

Towards producing skilled and employable graduates

To produce graduates who are skilled and work-ready, the Royal University of Bhutan intends to make its programmes and courses relevant to the jobs available in the market. In this regard, the university signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Culture today.

A training to certify engineers

With over 600 of them still looking for jobs, the number of unemployed engineer graduates in the country is overwhelmingly huge. But with the government’s recent revision of evaluation parameters for large and medium contractors to procure work, it seems their days of struggle are finally over. About 300 selected graduates will undergo Employability Skills training after which they will be certified. And for the contractors to participate in procurement, the employment of certified engineers will be a mandatory criterion. The first batch of the 10-day training began today.

IT camp bridging digital divide among youth

We live in an era where digital technologies are revolutionising the global economy and the way people live, work and play. But in the country, these things seem far from achievable, at least for now, with only a handful of people having access to digital technologies such as computers and laptops. To prepare underprivileged youth to navigate the digital world through digital literacy and technology, an IT training camp was organised at the Gyalpoizhing College of Information Technology in Monggar.

Police submitted their rebuttal statement in the ongoing defamation case against Penjore, a private individual today. The representative of the Police said Penjore defamed the Office of the Attorney General and his post on Facebook was not in the public interest. The case is in the Thimphu district court.

Digitisation of Cable TV in East

With the digitisation of cable television services in Thimphu since June 2018, the residents enjoy High-Definition (HD) visuals. The Bhutan InfoCom and Media Authority (BICMA) aims to complete the digitisation of cable TV by the end of this year. Soon, people in the east can look forward to having better quality visual in the coming days. Gearing towards this, local cable operators (LCO) of the five eastern dzongkhags were trained on the digitisation of analog TV recently.
