“Don’t Choose Extinction”- UNDP campaigns to address climate change

Climate change is real. What we are experiencing today, like unseasonal rainfall, deadly storms and floods, melting glaciers and prolonged heatwaves are the beginning of the end of the earth. Ahead of the Global Climate Summit, COP26, the UNDP launched a campaign- “Don’t Choose Extinction” to warn where we're headed to.

Relocation of Sarpangtar to Sheychamthang promises better prospects

Once the construction of Sarpang Dzong completes, it would house the dzongkhag administration and become the summer residence of Sarpang Rabdey. Stating that the Sarpangtar town, which is nearby the dzong would be unsuitable, the Dzongkhag Business Development Committee is proposing the relocation of the town. And people who operate businesses in the town welcomed the initiative.

Fuel price increases to a new high

It was another blow to the country’s already expensive commodities. The fuel price rose to a new high on Monday. The International Energy Agency, a Paris-based organization forecasts the price for natural oil to continue to grow this year. In Bhutan, the price of petrol increased by almost Nu 5 and diesel, by almost Nu 3.

NI-TAG extends vaccination deadline for children

The National Immunization Technical Advisory Group  (NI-TAG) extended the vaccination deadline for children aged between 12 and 17 years until Thursday. This is to make up for the lost time during the government holidays and the weekend. However, there is an exception for those unvaccinated people coming from abroad. Similarly, those who have received the first dose will also be provided with the second dose.

ECB extends postal ballot registration deadline for the LG elections

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) extended the postal ballot registration deadline for the Local Government Elections until the 10th of this month. The registration which was supposed to end yesterday was extended in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Turning fallow land into Adzuki beans farm successful- Monggar

A group of women came together to turn fallow land into a successful commercial farm at Chhubar in Tsakaling Gewog of Monggar. They are now harvesting Adzuki beans, a bushy non-climbing bean species, from three acres of revived land that remained fallow until July this year.
