Residents in Omchuna grapple with water shortage

After the development of Shaychamthang village in Gakiling Gewog in Sarpang into a satellite town in 2017, the water supply to an adjacent village Omchuna was discontinued. Since then, Omchuna village has been plagued with water shortage. 

Tenants unhappy with NHDCL’s decision to increase rent from this month

Much to the dismay of the tenants, the National Housing Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL) in Phuentshogling increases the house rent from this month. The tenants were notified of the ten percent increase on September 16. They said the office should at least wait until next year since the town relaxed COVID restrictions only in August.

Yoeseltse Gewog struggling to guard crops against livestock from across the border- Samtse

Heat, rain and cold have not deterred the armed force personnel and DeSuups from guarding Bhutan's porous border amid the pandemic. It has helped bring down illegal trade and trespassing which threatened Bhutan's effort in fighting the pandemic. However, the old pandemic affecting the farmers along the border continues to haunt them; It is the never-resolved issue of livestock from across the border damaging their crops which has even forced some farmers in Samtse to leave their once fertile fields fallow.    

Kidu settlement at Chhubesa for Lunaps connected with safe and reliable drinking water

People from Lunana migrating to the lowlands to get away from the harsh cold winters will now have safe and reliable drinking water in their new Kidu settlement at Chhubesa in Goenshari Gewog of Punakha. The De-suung National Service Water Project at the area was completed recently. 

BoB Bhutan Premier League 2021, a thriller season

Since the start of this year’s BoB Bhutan Premier League season, Paro FC and Thimphu City have dominated most of the matches. The two giants eventually clashed yesterday in the final match of the season which would decide the winner. Health experts say victims are often shaken up by intrusive memories, flashbacks and nightmares and require treatment. However, according to officials with the NCWC, many do not seek counselling or any form of treatment.

There is barely a proper space for the increasing population. Moreover, it has become unsafe as cracks have developed on the walls. People are calling for urgent intervention.

Need for a bridge over Lingabi river- Lhuentse

People in Gangzur Gewog of Lhuentse are asking for a motorable bridge over a stream between the villages of Lekpa and Lingabi. The gewog centre road passes through the stream and without a bridge, the water runs over the road today. They said there is a risk to the lives of school-going children and also damages vehicles passing through it.

NRDCL’s depot in Hoomdar struggles to sell timber- Zhemgang

Natural Resource Development Corporation Limited (NRDCL) in Zhemgang has had more than Nu 6 M worth of unsold timber at its depot in Hoomdar in Tingtibi since last year. People there are now concerned about the wastage of public resources and are asking the NRDCL to sell the timber at a subsidised rate before it is too late.

No money to improve a bypass in Zhemgang

It has almost been a decade since the construction of more than a four-kilometre bypass along the Tingtibi - Gongphu highway in Zhemgang was complete. But even today, the road is still in unpleasant condition. People are asking, “what could have gone wrong that it had to be delayed this far?”
