Human-wildlife conflict becoming a menace in Trongsa

From tigers attacking domestic animals to leopards mauling men in their homes to wild boars attacking crops, the issue of human-wildlife conflict is becoming a nightmare for the farmers in Trongsa. In Draagteng and Nubi Gewogs, the farmers have exhausted all means to protect their crops from wild boar attacks.

Upon Royal Command of His Majesty The King, a thousand butter lamps and prayers were offered at the Semtokha Dzong today for the late president of the University of Texas in the US. Leopard attacks two men in their house- Jangbi in Trongsa

Two men were attacked by a leopard that entered their house in Jangbi village under Langthil Gewog in Trongsa at about 9 PM yesterday. They were evacuated to the JDWNRH today.

Dual Training Programme to replace the current teaching modality in TTIs

Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) across the country could soon replace their current teaching modality with the Dual Training programme. Through the programme, trainees spend almost the entirety of their two-year course outside the institute working with partner companies. The programme was successfully piloted at the Chhumig TTI in Bumthang. The first batch of 27 trainees completed their two years under the Dual Training method recently.

Cardamom replaces orange as cash crop- Pema Gatshel

Orange now takes a back seat. Cardamom has become the next cash crop for the farmers of Pema Gatshel. They started growing the spice in 2014. The highest number of growers are in Khangma chiwog. Some hundred households are into cardamom cultivation.

Bhutan takes dog population management to another level

From a cuddly pet to a menacing stray, dogs have always been a part of Bhutanese life. Today there are more than 72,000 dogs in the country and the number is only increasing. With it, there is an increase in dog bite cases and rabies outbreaks every year. To address this issue, the Livestock Department has come up with a strategy to achieve a hundred per cent sterilization of stray dogs and ensure responsible pet ownership under the Dog Population Control Flagship Programme.
