Plot owners in Denchi town worried that they will not get the basic amenities, Pema Gatshel

The most common reasons for not completing construction activities on time during the pandemic are labour shortage and unavailability of raw materials. However, in Pema Gatshel's Denchi town, some landowners are not buying these excuses. They have been working hard to complete their building constructions, and the pandemic is not holding them back. But now, they are worried that they will not get the basic amenities even if they complete the construction works early since other landowners have not started the construction works.

Crematorium in need of basic infrastructure, Wangdue Phodrang

The Wangdue Phodrang district's crematorium is in need of basic infrastructure. And the little there is are in dire need of maintenance as an increasing number of people in the district are using the facility with COVID-19 safety protocol restricting the public to travel out of respective districts for cremation. The issue was raised during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu.

EU commits €31 M to Bhutan

The European Union (EU) committed its support of 31 M Euro to Bhutan for the next EU programming period which begins from 2021 to 2027. According to the Gross National Happiness Commission’s Secretary, other development partners also assured their assistance.

Sungchob Fund and Kidu Fund raise more than Nu 1bn from the sale of RICBL shares

The Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan’s shares held in the name of Sungchob Fund and Kidu Fund closed at a final price of Nu 73.05 per share, yesterday. The Royal Security Exchange of Bhutan floated more than 15 million shares at a floor price of Nu 72.5 per share.

Bhutanese para-archer bows out from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games

Pema Rigsel, the lone Bhutanese para-archer, bowed out of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games today. He lost to a Russian archer in the elimination rounds of the men’s individual recurve open.  According to the Bhutan Paralympic Committee officials, the 34-year-old put on a show and even won a set from the Russian. The Russian para-archer was ranked third during the ranking rounds from a total of 31 participants.

Bhutan Standards Bureau certifies six products

These days, standard certification for locally manufactured products has become a must if the products have to be sold beyond the borders. Noting the importance and significance of the standard, Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB) awarded certificates to six products manufacturer under the Cottage and Small Industries Flagship Programme. 

PDP calls on the govt to implement the new school assessment structure from the next academic session

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) calls on the government to implement the new school assessment structure from the new academic session. They say this change in the assessment system is unfair and insensitive. The party said the government announced the new structure from mid this year.

Local leaders ask BPC to replace power cables to prevent fire hazards- Ge-nyen Gewog in Thimphu

Local leaders in Thimphu asked the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) to replace the power transmission cables in Chizhi and Wangbama under Ge-nyen Gewog during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu. According to them, the distance between the electric poles is too long causing the cables to hang low. They said on windy days, the loose power lines come into contact with each other causing sparks and triggering wildfires.
