Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graces launch of waste management facilities

The issue of waste management within Thimphu Thromde and the district is expected to get better now. The National Environment Commission Secretariat and the Waste Management Flagship Programme launched waste management facilities including waste drop-off centres for the residents of Thimphu today. Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, the Royal Patron for environment graced the event.

National COVID-19 Task Force to confirm plans to ease some COVID restrictions

During the Meet The Press session today, the Prime Minister announced that the National COVID-19 Task Force is planning to ease some of the COVID restrictions. The relaxation includes time extension of businesses for an hour more and decreasing the quarantine period to two weeks. The decision as per the Prime Minister will come within two to three days.

Health ministry studying the need for booster dose

The Health Minister says samples have been collected to test the level of antibody developed after two doses of COVID vaccine. This, she said would help determine the need for a third dose or a booster dose. The government is also keeping tabs on the emergence of global evidences on the requirement of booster doses.

New BCCI President hopes to help small businesses affected by the pandemic

The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) elected its new president today. Tandin Wangchuk, the former vice president and a businessman will serve as the new president for the next five years. The president hopes to assist businesses affected by the pandemic and rebuild the trust between businesses and the BCCI.

Encouraging institutional delivery

The health ministry's aim to achieve a hundred per cent institutional delivery within the 12th five-year plan is hampered by the barriers like a long distance to health facilities, cultural beliefs favouring home delivery and also the attitude of health workers. According to the health minister, the new policy of 'Accelerating Mother and Child Health Outcome- 1,000 Days Plus' will enable the ministry to break the barriers.

Supreme Court remanded Goshing Gup’s case to Dungkhag Court

The Panbang Dungkhag court in Zhemgang conducted the first hearing of the case involving the Goshing Gup today. The case had already gone through the lower courts and reached the Supreme Court in May but it was sent back.  The Supreme Court had stated that a proper investigation on one charge was not carried out.

Bhutanese Paralympic Archer debuts at 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo

Pema Rigsel, 34, made his debut at the 2020 Paralympics today. He stood 30th out of 31 participants in the Men’s Recurve Open Archery Ranking round. He defeated a Mongolian archer.

RENEW on the importance of Counseling for Mental Wellbeing

RENEW stands for Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women in Bhutan. It was founded by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck in 2004. RENEW is a non-profit organization dedicated to empower women and children in Bhutan. RENEW provides counseling services for free. Our producer Sonam Dema interviewed the Executive Director of RENEW, Tshering Dolkar, on the importance of counseling for mental wellbeing.
