UA FC defeat Gelephu FC 3-1

Ugyen Academy FC came from behind to defeat Gelephu FC 3-1 in the ongoing BOB Bhutan Premier League. In what was the fastest goal of the league campaign, Gelephu FC scored just 23 seconds into the match. However, 20 minutes later, Ugyen Academy found their equalizer.

MHEP receives Brunel Medal 2020

The Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Plant (MHEP) received the Brunel Medal 2020 for excellence in civil engineering and valuable service or achievement. On Thursday, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan handed over the award to economic affairs minister Loknath Sharma, the chairman of the MHEP.

Paddy cultivation resumes after seven years in Rilangthang, Tsirang

Farmers of Rilangthang in Sergithang Gewog, Tsirang, are back working in their paddy fields. A major forest fire in 2014 cut off the community’s irrigation channel, leading to a seven-year hiatus without paddy cultivation.

Pema Gatshel Drangpon Yeshi Dorji also appealed to the High Court today. Last month, the Thimphu District Court sentenced him to five years in prison for abetting mutiny and larceny by deception, to be served concurrently.

Tobacco Quota Outlet disposes of more than Nu 860,000 worth of damaged tobacco products

The Tobacco Quota Outlet in Samdrup Jongkhar disposed damaged tobacco products worth more than Nu 860,000 last week. An official from the outlet said soaring temperature and lack of ventilation in the quarantine could have damaged the products. Officials also suspect that they could have been damaged from the source. They said, to avoid such damages, they will reduce the import.

PDP demands economic affairs minister apologize to the residents of Phuentshogling

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the economic affairs minister’s recent comment about business owners of Phuentshogling to a newspaper. Lyonpo Loknath Sharma was quoted criticising the plight of the Phuentshogling businesses.

Session on space programmes to encourage Bhutanese youth

To encourage Bhutanese youth to pursue space technology, the Indian Embassy organised an interactive session on space programmes in Thimphu today. More than 20 students from Thimphu and Paro took part in the session. According to the Indian Embassy, space technology is one of the promising areas of cooperation between Bhutan and India. Currently, Bhutan is also developing its second satellite with India’s support at the Indian Space Research Organization based in Bangalore, India.

RSTA comes up with a new service centre for vehicle owners’ convenience

Frustrating days are over for the residents of Thimphu, especially while renewing and processing vehicle documents. The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) opened a branch office at Babesa recently. Except for driving tests, the new office will provide all the services, similar to the head office at Lungtenzampa.

BoB Bhutan Premier League updates

High Quality FC defeated Tensung FC 2-0 in the second round of the ongoing BoB Bhutan Premier League today at the Changlimithang. The first half of the game ended in a draw. However, in the second half, High Quality FC found the back of the net with a staggering header in the 63rd minute. The lead was cemented shortly after an additional goal was scored.
