COVID positive herders of Merag in pastureland isolation

With a few of the COVID-19 positive patients in Trashigang referred to Monggar hospital and a few of them in isolation within the district, 12 COVID-19 positive cases of Merag Gewog who are herders have chosen to isolate themselves in their respective pasturelands. And to provide emergency medical service, the district COVID-19 Task Force has set up a temporary medical camp at Toedrong which is about six hours walk from the Merag Gewog centre.

Woongchiloo Dairy Group in Nanong Gewog, Pema Gatshel has smelled the sweet scent of success in recent times. The group has been able to save more than a million ngultrum in just a year. This has encouraged the members to focus on raising more cattle. Dairy groups are among the top profit-making farmer's group in the district. 

De-suung National Service Water Project in Gyelpoizhing to benefit close to 480 households, Monggar

The erratic water supply in Gyelpoizhing town of Monggar, especially during the monsoon, will soon be history. Works to construct two numbers of water reservoirs, which has a capacity to store over one million litres of water and also the construction of 11 kilometres of water pipeline started today. The groundbreaking ceremony for the De-suung National Service Water Project in the town was held yesterday. It is the second project being executed in Monggar dzongkhag. The first Water Project in the dzongkhag was already completed and handed over to the community of Kalapang last month.

Waste management strategy at Cordyceps collection sites proving effective, Bumthang

The waste management strategy of imposing a security deposit of Nu 1,000 on all Cordyceps collectors of Chhoekhor Gewog in Bumthang has helped in reducing waste in Cordyceps collection sites. Under the strategy the Wangchuck Centennial National Park and the Chhoekhor Gewog office started last year, all collectors have to declare everything they take into the collection sites and bring the waste back once they return home.

Media Arbitrator instructs DNT to remove a campaign video from its social media page

The Media Arbitrator for the bye-election of Monggar and Nganglam constituencies instructed Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa to remove a video from its social media page today. A campaign video was uploaded on social media yesterday. According to the Media Arbitrator, the campaign video was not approved by the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB).

Samtse DT rejects Norgaygang Gup’s resignation

The Samtse Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) rejected the resignation of Norgaygang Gup, Rinchen Dorji. The gup, on Sunday, submitted resignation citing he is demotivated to work since the dzongkhag administration has been biased and do not cooperate with the gewog’s works. The gewog’s mangmi and the tshogpa of Joenpang-Linggarnang chiwog also submitted their resignation letter to the Gewog Tshogde.

Farmers in Paro resort to using weedicides during paddy transplantation

Farmers in Paro can be seen transplanting paddy at this time of the year. But one common practice among the farmers during this time is the use of weedicides. Farmers have been using it for more than a decade. One of the reasons is the labour shortage. They said if they do not resort to using weedicides, it will be a daunting task to suppress the weeds once it outgrows. Almost all ten gewogs in the district cultivate paddy. And paddy is one of the main food crops as well as a cash crop for the farmers.  

Legislative Committee of the National Council recommends providing adequate human resources and financial support to CSOs

Introducing the Civil Society Organisation (Amendment) Bill 2021, the legislative committee of the National Council recommended providing adequate human resources and financial support to the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Authority. The Chairperson of the legislative committee said, since its inception in 2010, the CSO Authority has not received any sort of capital budget from the government.  

National Assembly rejects the proposal to increase the punishment for false claims by public servants

The National Assembly rejected the Good Governance Committee's proposal to increase the punishment for false claims by public servants during the deliberation of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill at the National Assembly today.
