Two teachers left to manage a primary school with over 70 students for almost two months, Punakha

With only two Dzongkha teachers teaching more than 70 students at Wolathang Primary School under Toedwang Gewog in Punakha for almost a month now, parents are raising concerns. Parents are worried about the quality of education. The two Dzongkha teachers have been managing five classrooms by teaching all the subjects. 

Should police and OAG investigate corruption cases? Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill

The Good Governance Committee again presented the new subsection under section 119 of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill to the National Assembly today. During the discussion, a few members raised their concerns about the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) investigating corruption cases at the behest of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Preferential Trade Agreement to reduce trade barriers between Bhutan and Bangladesh

The National Assembly deliberated on Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Bhutan and Bangladesh and supported all the 22 articles of the Convention. The trade agreement allows duty-free export of 16 additional products to already existing 18 products to Bangladesh. Likewise, 10 more products from Bangladesh will have duty free export to Bhutan in addition to the already 90 existing products. The agreement was signed between the two countries in December last year.

Legislative Committee of the National Council proposes the need of Civil Liability Act/Torts Act

The Legislative Committee of the National Council proposed the need to enact Civil Liability Act/Torts Act. Civil Liability or a Torts Act, according to the committee, will address the ongoing predicament faced by victims of civil wrongs. The proposed legislation will bring about accountability in the system and instil a sense of responsibility among individuals or relevant agencies.

Tree Nurturing Club to nurture saplings planted across the country

Planting trees is considered one of the most important means to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Many in the country initiate tree plantation programmes frequently. However, the majority of the saplings after plantation are left without care. Thus, to protect and nurture thousands of saplings planted across the country, a Tree Nurturing Club was officially opened under the Snowman Race Secretariat today. 

Labour Minister questioned on the government’s plans to tackle the rising unemployment rate in the country

The Labour Minister, Ugyen Dorji, said the ministry alone has engaged about 14,000 individuals so far through various training and programmes besides His Majesty The King and the government's commendable effort to solve unemployment in the country. The minister shared this during the question hour session of the National Assembly today.

National Assembly directs Good Governance Committee to again rework on the new clauses of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill

The National Assembly today asked the Good Governance Committee to again rework the two new clauses proposed yesterday. The committee verbally proposed to include two new subsections under section 104 and 108 of the  Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill yesterday.
