Lhops add Ema datshi and Kewa datshi to their menu

The Lhops or Doyaps in Samtse have lived off whatever nature provided them for as long as they can remember. But now, dishes like ema datshi and kewa datshi are on the menu. In Ngawang Dramtoe village under Tading Gewog, where a few communities of Lhops live, foxtail millet and maize are harvested. It is only recently that the Lhops learned vegetable farming. 

Mountain Hazelnuts sends around 300 employees on unpaid leave

The Mountain Hazelnuts, one of the country's biggest private companies, has sent around 300 of its employees on unpaid leave.  It is for up to three months beginning this month. The company employs more than 400 people. According to the company’s management, it is an interim measure taken up to cut down cost for the sustainability of the company amid the pandemic.

Poor chilli yield dims good price, Trashi Yangtse

Chilli yield in Yalang and Ramjar Gewogs of Trashi Yangtse has gone down. Chilli production decreased due to less rainfall and pests infestation. And this has left the farmers distressed as the local chillies fetch them a good price in the market. But the price of chillies has not dropped below Nu 200 per kilogram. 160 households in the two gewogs cultivate chillies in around 32 acres of land.

ACC drops the case of alleged collusion and undue price-fixing in gypsum export

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) dropped the case of alleged collusion and undue price-fixing in the export of gypsum. According to the ACC, the commission decided to stop further investigation into the case due to a lack of evidence. The ACC received a complaint, last year against the Marketing Specialist and the Director of Marketing & Logistics of State Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL) alleging possible collusion and undue price-fixing in the export of gypsum to Nepal.
