Desuung Water Project to benefit farmers in Tashichhoeling under Tareythang Gewog, Sarpang

Residents of Tashichhoeling under Tareythang Gewog in Sarpang will soon have enough water to irrigate over 50 acres of dry land and 10 acres of wetland. The Desuung National Service launched the ninth pilot project to address water shortage issues in the gewog today. The project aims to bring water from Singgyechhu water source, which is 1.7 kilometres away from Tashichhoeling.

A 30-year-old man sentenced to 11 years for voluntary manslaughter, Trongsa

The Trongsa District Court sentenced a 30-year-old man from Phuntshothang Gewog under Samdrup Jongkhar to 11 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. He was found guilty of two counts of battery, criminal attempt to escape from lawful custody and voluntary manslaughter. The court passed the judgment recently.

Gasa hot spring to be safe from floods with the diversion of Mochhu river

The Gasa hot spring will become safe from floods soon as the works to divert the Mochhu river from the hot spring area are expected to be complete by the monsoon, this year. Over 70 percent of the works are complete as of today.

Lyonchhen receives the COVID-19 jab

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering received the COVID-19 vaccination at his quarantine centre, following the first auspicious inoculation at Lungtenzampa. On his second day of the quarantine, special arrangements were made to ensure that the protocols were strictly adhered to while the vaccine is administered. Lyonchhen returned to the country from Bangladesh on Thursday and is undergoing 21-day mandatory facility quarantine.

Ninda Dema, the first person to receive the COVID vaccine urges everyone to take the jab

Bhutan rolled out its nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive today. From more than 500,000 people who have registered for the vaccine, Ninda Dema from Paro was the first person to receive the jab today. In line with the Buddhist astrology, Ninda (30), born in the monkey year, received the jab from a female health worker who is also 30 years old at 9.30 am.

Bhutan begins nationwide COVID-19 vaccination

The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme began today. Over 80,000 people were vaccinated across the country, the highest being in Thimphu with over 17,000 inoculated. The Health Minister accompanied by other ministers and officials offered a thousand butter lamps at the Semtokha dzong earlier today before the historical vaccination programme. 

Residents of Dhosoom town to be relocated to the new town by the mid of this year

Despite being provided repeated time extension to relocate the town to the new township, residents of Dhosoom town in Trashi Yangtse have still not been able to do so. However, holding a public consultation meeting recently, shop owners and the Dzongkhag Administration came to an agreement that residents will shift to the new town by the end of June this year.

OAG to forward the case of three engineers of Thimphu Thromde accused of collusion and bribery to district court

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will soon forward the case of alleged collusion and bribery in the procurement works by the Thimphu Thromde to the district court. The OAG is currently reviewing the case. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) forwarded the case involving Thromde engineers and two contractors to OAG in 2019.

Bhutan all set to roll out the COVID-19 vaccine

Bhutan is all set to begin the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination tomorrow. The quota of the vaccine for respective districts has been safely delivered and stored in health facilities across the country. Bhutan received 550,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine from India for the first dose.
