Pay Revision Proposal; Teaching and Health to be more attractive

The Finance Minister presented Pay Revision Proposal in the National Assembly today. There are some major changes in the recommendations from the Pay Commission report which was released recently. The changes are with the revision on Teaching, Health and parliamentarians among others. According to the Finance Minister, the changes are made based on the principle of narrowing the gap.

Council recommends for a new Act to control alcohol abuse

A few members of the National Council recommended the need to come up with an act to control abuse of alcohol in yesterday’s session. This recommendation was made while the house deliberated on the Good Governance committee's recommendation of making Bhutan Narcotic Control Authority (BNCA) an overall agency to spearhead measures to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.

Three former lecturers of CLCS detained

Of the ten former staffs of the College of Language and Culture Studies (CLCS) in Trongsa under special investigation for alleged sexual harassment, three former lecturers were detained by the Trongsa police on Sunday for probable sexual harassment of students.

Free sanitary pads for girls in remote schools

Considering the affordability and accessibility challenges of sanitary pads in remote schools and nunneries, the education ministry will now supply free sanitary pads to 107 remote schools and 17 nunneries starting this year. The ministry launched the distribution of free sanitary pads initiative yesterday. The initiative is funded by UNICEF.

Her Majesty’s birthday marked with cleaning campaigns

To commemorate the 29th Birthday of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, volunteers across Thimphu city participated in mass cleaning campaigns. A total of 6.4 metric tons of garbage were collected during the campaign, held from 9 am- 12 noon.

Need for adequate rehab facilities in the country

Lack of adequate rehabilitation facilities in the country is one of the challenges in addressing alcohol abuse. The Good Governance Committee of the National Council highlighted this during the presentation of the Review Report on the Harmful Use of Alcohol in the country yesterday.

Bhutan wins the 5th International Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship

Bhutan won the 5th International Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship and India won the 4th International Poomsae Championship. Both the finals were played yesterday at the swimming pool complex in Thimphu yesterday.
