Initial samples test positive for bird flu

The initial testing of samples for bird flu or Avian Influenza H5N1 from Motithang in Thimphu have tested positive, according to Programme Director of National Centre for Animal Health, Dr. Kinzang Dukpa.

Relief and reconstruction in Samtse almost complete

Over 90 percent of relief and reconstruction works have been completed in Samtse. A windstorm on April 4 had damaged more than 200 houses in the district.

Horse Riding Association formed

A Horse Riding Association called the Taktsang Zhenta Detsuen was inaugurated in Paro, yesterday. Around 28 service providers with over 200 horses are registered under the association.

Over 40 participants took part in a two-day open badminton tournament in Trashigang. Participants were from Wangdue Phodrang, Monggar, Samdrup Jongkhar and Trashigang. Winners were awarded cash prize of Nu.20, 000 and runners up Nu.15, 000. It was organized by Trashigang Dzongkhag Sports Association.

A grade one Basic Health Unit was inaugurated in Logchina Gewog in Chhukha by the Chhukha Dzongdag, Pemba Wangchuk, yesterday. The BHU will benefit five villages in Logchina and other nearby gewogs. The construction of the BHU started in 2011. It was constructed at a cost of about Nu 33 M.

PM arrives in Sri Lanka

Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay arrived in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, yesterday. He is on an official visit to Sri Lanka on the invitation of Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena.
