Man dies after wall collapses on him

A wall in Changzamtog area in Thimphu collapsed on a 73-year-old employee of Thimphu Thromde killing him on the spot, yesterday. The man was cleaning the drain by the roadside below the wall, when the incident occurred.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Department of Engineering Services under the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement and Technical Training Institute in Chumey, Bumthang, yesterday. It is enhance education and training of Bhutanese technicians and engineers. The Institute will provide short-term trainings in carpentry, plumbing and masonry in all the 20 Dzongkhags.

Bathpalathang airport lacks safety measures

Even though Bathpalathang airport in Bumthang continues to see a minimum of three flights a week, the airport does not have foolproof safety measures in place. The airport lacks apron, an area of an airport where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refuelled, or boarded.

Betting on better tourism prospect

Bhutan is seeing an increasing number of people building tourist hotels. Between 2013 and 2014, 28 hotels were established. Today over 48 hotels are being constructed and another 13 has been proposed for construction according to records maintained by the tourism council.

Beginning of the end for Deekiling town planning?

The new town development of Deekiling in Bumthang is in a dismal state. Some of the structures which have come up are either damaged or stolen. The new town, planned a decade ago, is yet to be finalised.

Following decline in international crude oil prices, petrol price was today slashed by 49 paise a litre and diesel by Rs 1.2 a litre in India. The new rates will be effective in Bhutan from tomorrow midnight. After the revision, petrol is likely to cost Nu 60.2 a litre and diesel Nu 50.8 a litre in Thimphu.
