Rice self-sufficiency: a far-fetched dream?

To meet the local demand, Bhutan imports about 50,000 metric tons of rice on an average every year, which is more than 4,000 truckloads of rice approximately.

A 34-year-old woman, who was reported missing since Monday night, was found dead in a car accident. Her body was discovered from the accident site last evening. The car had fallen 100 metres below the road, 2km away from Gangola towards Gyalpoizhing and Lingmithang. The deceased is survived by four children, and is from Kanglung.

Gaeddu College of Business Studies won this year’s 7-sided football tournament in Phuentshogling. In the final yesterday, they defeated the team from Kuengyel Coke and Chemicals, Pasakha. Winners were awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Nu. 15,000. Runners-up took home a trophy and Nu. 12,000. The tournament is an annual event, organised by Phuentshogling Sports Association.

IBD outbreak kills hundreds of chicks in Punakha

An Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) outbreak killed about 342 birds in pullet-rearing farm in Toep Gewog, Punakha, earlier this month. This is first such outbreak reported in Punakha.

Forged banknotes still in circulation

There are still some counterfeit banknotes into circulation, says the Royal Monetary Authority. Till date an estimated of a few thousands of each denomination of counterfeits have been detected.
