Monsoon to arrive coming week

The monsoon will arrive in the country in the coming week, forecasts the department of Hydro-Met Services. It is slowly moving upward from Myanmar, expecting to reach the Country by Sunday.

NC questions government’s decision to allow second hand electric cars

The National Council said the government’s decision to allow the import of second hand electric cars is in contradiction to the idea of conserving environment. The Gasa member Sangay Khandu posted on facebook: “The Prime Minister, Head of Government driving a Nissan Tesla electric car (probably not procured by Government & very expensive) and the Government procuring 30-40 used Nissan leaf electric cars against existing laws and rules of the land maybe seen as probable cause for conflict of interest.”

Experiencing GNH in-depth

In order to bring a social transformation of societies through Gross National Happiness, nine international participants are in the Country to understand and experience Gross National Happiness in-depth. The international participants along with Bhutanese youth will be creating a network of ambassadors for Gross National Happiness around the world. The week-long programme, ‘GNH and Inner Dimension of the Social Transformation’ began today.

Unequal and uneven distribution of LPGs and Kerosene: National Council

The distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and superior kerosene oil in the country is unequal and unreliable. Discussing the matter at the National Council today, members felt the need for an immediate policy framework to solve the uneven distribution of energy in the different Dzongkhags.

Early child care centre established in Barshong, Sarpang

An early child care centre has been established by the UNICEF at Barshong village under Serzhong Gewog in Sarpang. People of the Gewog are happy as they will not have to worry about their young ones when they go to work in the fields.

The BoB launched Corporate Credit Card in Thimphu, today. The card will be issued only to selected employees of organizations for official use. Corporate organisations incorporated under Companies Act, Government agencies, Ministries and other agencies as approved by Royal Monetary Authority will be entitled for the credit card.

Tara Lhaden Zhingkham Lhakhang consecrated

The consecration of the newly constructed Tara Lhaden Zhingkham Lhakhang at the Pangrizampa in Thimphu was held today. His Majesty the King and the His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo graced the consecration ceremony. The consecration ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

Bhutan Airlines to fly to Nepal

Bhutan Airlines, the country’s first and the only private airline, will fly to Nepal beginning 16th of this month. The Airline launched its inaugural flight to Kathmandu yesterday.

Elephants wreak havoc in two villages of Dewathang

Elephants are wreaking havoc in Yebum and Borbela villages in Dewathang. The rampaging elephants have destroyed villagers’ homes and crops. The villagers are now spending sleepless nights guarding their crops.

Paro Forestry officials have again seized 34 pieces of sandalwood weighing over 200 kilogrammes Thursday morning. The sandalwood was seized from Tsento Gewog as it was being carried to China on horsebacks. The offender will be slapped a fine of about Nu. two hundred thousand. This is the 8th case reported in Paro this year.
