The newly renovated Lhuentse Dzong was inaugurated yesterday. The Rabney was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo. It was inaugurated by His Majesty’s Representative to the East His Royal Highness, Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

Man dies after fire engulfs his home

A 73-year-old man died after fire engulfed his one-storied home in Tashiphu under Sherzong Gewog in Sarpang. The incident took place at 2am, this morning.

Thousands of devotees received Tshewang or the blessing of longevity from His Eminence Dudjom Yangsi Sangay Pema Zhepa Rinpoche in Trashigang yesterday. Devotees gathered at the football ground in Yongphula to receive the blessing.  His Eminence Dudjom Yangse is in Bhutan to preside over Threma Tshokhor and Phurpa Namcha Pudri Drupchen in the eastern Dzongkhags. Dudjom Yangsi Sangay Pema Zhepa Rinpoche is one of the reincarnations of Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdrel Yeshey Dorji.

The National Referral Hospital in Thimphu will conduct a survey to understand the leading cause of stroke cases in country. At least one person suffering from stroke comes to the National Referral Hospital every day. In a year, over 200 stroke cases are reported in the country.

BIT, collecting the Bhutanese way

Small and medium scale shops of Thimphu are levied taxes on a lump sum basis. These enterprises do not maintain a book of accounts as the customs officials do not ask for it at the time of the assessment. There are only a handful of shops in Thimphu, which maintain the book of accounts for the purpose of Business Income Tax (BIT).
