Manipur’s football team wins first Foundation Cup

Zomi Football Club from Manipur, the Northeastern state of India, claimed the title of the first Bhutan Clearing Football Club Foundation Cup. In the finals played yesterday in Phuentsholing, they defeated the Himalayan Football Club from Sikkim, India.

In an effort to enhance the country’s preparedness, the National Consultative Workshop on Emergency Preparedness and Contingency Plan for Avian Influenza Virus A (H7N9) began in Thimphu, today. During the three-day workshop, on-going emergency surveillance activities and findings of the avian influenza A (H7N9) will be assessed amongst others. The workshop is coordinated by the National Center for Animal Health and Food and Agriculture Organization with different stakeholders.

A youth workshop on GNH and mindfulness started in the capital, today. Over 400 youth from all over the country are participating. The participants will be familiarized with the concept of Gross National Happiness during the three and a half days workshop. They will also be taught meditation. The theme for the workshop is Youth Ambassadors of change. It is being organized by the GNH Centre Bhutan in collaboration with the YDF.

Tandin Wangmo, 81, has never missed Punakha Domche and Tshechu. She vividly remembers her first day at Domche, 73 years ago. She was just eight years old and since then never missed any of the festivals.

His Holiness the Je Khenpo conferred upon the Khadar to the Principal of Talo Shedra in Punakha and the Vice-principal of Kothaka Rinchenling Tho-rim Shedra in Wangdi Phodrang yesterday.

Education fair sees more Indian Universties

Increasing number of Bhutanese students wishing to pursue higher studies in India has attracted many Indian unversities in education fair organised in Bhutan. As the two-day 8th education fair was inuagurated today, the number of universities has doubled.

Another IELTS centre in Bhutan

To appear for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam, it was only the Royal Institute of Management, which used to facilitate the test for the Bhutanese people till date. And sometimes due to limited number of seats, people had to travel to India to do their exam. Now, a private firm, the Institute for Management Studies (IMS) will also facilitate the exam, easing the burden on those who would want to avail themselves of the test.

The Legend of Yue Pemachen

Most Bhutanese are familiar with the epic of Khando Drowa Zangmo. It was taught in the schools as part of the school curriculum until a few years ago. Towards the end of the epic, Khandro Drowa Zangmo’s son, Kuentu Legpa rules a village called Yue Pemachen. And that place is said to be the present day Chaling village under Shongphu Gewog, Trashigang.

HH Gyalse Trulku awarded master’s degree

His Holiness the Je Khenpo conferred master’s degree certificates to His Holiness the Gyalse Trulku, Jigme Tenzin Wangpo, and Trulku Thukten Chhophel along with 60 other graduates. They graduated from Tango College of Buddhist studies.

‘I will leave it up to you’, says PM on Dungkhag relocation

The final decision now lies in the hands of the people. People of Chhuzanggang, Tareythang, Umling and Serzhong Gewogs in Gelegphu Dungkhag will have to decide whether to shift the Dungkhag to Chhuzanggang located over the Moa river or not. The Prime Minister who made this promise during the election campaign last year said the government will let the locals decide on the matter.
