PM leaves for Myanmar to attend BIMSTEC Summit

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, and his delegation left for Myanmar today to attend the Third Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit.

Fire destroys 1000 acres of forest in Lhuntse

Forestry officials and a team of volunteers including local people and Deesups are battling a forest fire in Lhuntse. The fire, which started around 9 AM yesterday, has so far destroyed over 1000 acres of forest between Rewan and Awtsho.

Losar wishes to His Majesty and Gyaltsuen

His Majesty then granted them audience.

Druk-Gi-Nyagoe given hero’s welcome

Druk-Gi-Nyagoe received a hero’s welcome as he arrived home in Trongsa on Friday. It was a grand homecoming. Phuntsho Wangdi, 35, from Tangsibji Gewog was received with jubilation by the people of Trongsa.

Tsimasham police in Chhukha have detained two teenagers in connection with a murder. They are accused of murdering a 23-year-old man last month. The incident happened on the evening of February 22 following a scuffle. One of the accused, a 17-year-old, who stabbed the deceased has confessed to the crime. The hospital staff in Tsimasha said he was brought dead.

Seven die in two separate accidents

Five people, including driver, died when the Wagon R taxi they were travelling in veered off the road and fell about 1,000 metres below the road. Except for the driver, all the passengers are of Indian origin.

Government shuts down Education City Project

The government has decided to shut down the Education City Project. At Meet the Press yesterday, the Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said the Cabinet had decided not to be a part of the project, which had been termed “illegal” by the National Land Commission.
