New additional chief and 2 deputies appointed

(Picture Story): A new additional Chief of Police and two Deputy Chiefs of Police were appointed, today. Following Royal Assent received through the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, the Royal Bhutan Police appointed Thrimdag Gongma Chimi Dorji as the new Additional Chief of Police, Thrimdag Gongma Dorji Wangchuk as the new Deputy Chief of Police of Investigation Bureau and Thrimdag Gongma Kuenzang Rinzin as the new Deputy Chief of Police of Special Police Branch.

Professionalism in Bhutanese Media

Lack of professionalism continues to be a major challenge plaguing the Bhutanese media says the Bhutan Information and Media Impact Study 2013. The study also points out other challenges like sustainability issues  and the media's heavy dependence on public sector advertisement.

Tractor rendered useless in absence of a bridge

A tractor, that was supposed to ferry people of Nabji, Korphu and Nimshong villages under Trongsa dzongkhag, is not serving its purpose. People of these three villages have to walk about five hours to the gewog centre, every day.

Lack of bridge causes inconvenience

Lack of bridge over a Kugturgangchhu in Gangkhardung Village under Boomdeling Gewog in Tashi Yangtse is causing inconvenience to the people. The bridge could not be constructed due to lack of budget.

Y-Peer’s Training of Trainers ends

The third National Training of Trainers, conducted by Y-Peer, Bhutan Network, on becoming effective peer educators, concluded in Thimphu, today.

Over thousands of devotees received a Khandu Thugki Tshewang In Gomtu yesterday. His Eminence Dungtse Garab Rinpochhe administered the Tshewang at the PCAL public ground. In last two days, His Eminence has visited Threma Lhakhang and carried out the Threma Tshokhor as well. This is the first administering of Tshewang by his Eminence in Gomtu. Dungtse Garab Rinpochhe also visited some gewogs in Samtse in last couple of days.

Signed petition for stronger laws against drug peddlers submitted to PM

More than 13,000 people signed the anti-drug petition drive organised by the Chithuen Phendhey Association for stronger laws against drug peddlers and stronger support for abusers.

Stringent monitoring on transfer of vehicles’ ownership to begin

Currently, for every 100 vehicles sold, at least 30 vehicles do not transfer their ownership. Many motorists are not aware of the need to change ownership. Come January, the Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA), and the traffic police will intensify checks and defaulters will be punished according to existing rules.

Court orders the restitution of Gyalpoizhing land

The Monggar Court passed a summary judgment on the Gyalpoizhing land case to 18 individuals, this afternoon.  It is called summary verdict when people submit the statement saying they will abide by the decision of the court.

House gutted in Thimphu

A one-storied house above Hotel Riverview in the capital was gutted by fire last evening at around 6.
