Drawing road map for deaf education

The Ministry of Education is expected to draw up a road map on education for the hearing-impaired, very soon. A host of concerns are being raised as this is a relatively new area involving training in special needs as well as addressing resource gaps.

Lhuentse Dzong renovation nearing completion

After almost a year’s delay the renovation of the Lhuentse Dzong is almost complete now. All that remains of the renovation is interior painting, and maintenance of statues. The September 2009 earthquake severely damaged the Dzong.

A 10-member delegation led by Chairperson of Special Committee on Official Development Assistance of the House of Councilors from Japan, Eriko Yamatani called on the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay today. The delegation and Lyonchhen discussed on areas of development for extending Official Development Assistance from Japan to Bhutan. The core objective of ODA is promotion of economic development and welfare in developing nations.

A woman, 45, and her nine-year-old daughter died on the spot after the tractor they were travelling veered-off the road on the Ura-Nangar highway in Bumthang this afternoon. According to the Bumthang police the cause of the accident is due the over speeding and brake failure. The deceased was from Trashigang and was a roadside worker.

Over ten thousand devotees gathered at Trongsa Dzong to receive Tshe-pa-mey wang or blessings for long life today. The devotees came from as far as Zhemgang, Wangdue and Thimphu. Sacred relics were also displayed for public veneration. The most important relic on display was the walking stick of Yongzin Ngagay Wangchuk.

NA passes National Budget 2013-2014

After a prolonged discussion the National Assembly today passed the National Budget for the financial year 2013 -2014. Similarly, a supplementary budget bill was also passed.

The National Land Commission handed over the new lagthrams of Dagana Dzongkhag to its Dzongda, Tenzin Thinley, today. The new thrams were prepared after His Majesty the King granted excess land Kidu, based on the National Cadastral Resurvey Programme carried out last year.

Land corruption second highest: ACC Report 2012

Corruption regarding land is the second highest form of corruption next to corruption in resources. This has been reflected in the Anti-Corruption Commission Report 2012, which was deliberated in the National Council today.

Training the society

“Training a man is training an individual; but training a woman is training the society,” according to the Bhutan National Legal Institute (BNLI). In line with this 67 local women leaders are taking part in a two-week training to improve their mediation skills or Nangkha Nangdri.

NC review CDG performance audit report

The National Council’s Good Governance Committee yesterday submitted a review report on the performance audit of the Constituency Development Grant (CDG) carried out by the Royal Audit Authority (RAA).
