By-election for Nanong-Shumar in November

The poll day for the by-election of Nanong-Shumar constituency will be held in early November. The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) states that by-election process shall begin in early October, with the issuance of a Royal decree by His Majesty the King.

Zero malaria cases so far in Chhukha

Going by the figures maintained with the Dungkhag health office, malaria cases in Chhukha have drastically decreased in the past five years. From 58 cases in 2009, the figure stands at zero till date this year.

House of Representatives of Japan in Bhutan

A ten-member House of Representatives from Japan has arrived in the Country. The delegation is led by Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. The delegation called on Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang in the afternoon, today.

The 21st Round of Border Talks between the Bhutanese Government and the Government of the People’s Republic of China will be held in Thimphu on Thursday.

Temporary bridge at Rothpashong

(Update): For the last 10 days no heavy vehicles could ply towards Lhuentse as the road at Dorji Lung, popularly known as Rothpashong was partly washed away. A temporary bridge has now been constructed by the Construction Development Corporation (CDC), to connect the road and make it manageable for the vehicles to pass.

This has led to unsatisfactory end products. In line to cover these aspects, a four-day workshop with the AMITY group of association from Thailand is underway.

Sherab Tharchen is the best archer in the Country. The shootout was held yesterday at the Changlimethang archery range. He managed to hit 13 Kareys in 15 rounds defeating 14 archers in the on-going 17th Yangphel Open Archery Tournament.

Lyonchhen seeks continuous support from Japan

The Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Taro Kimura and his delegation called on the Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang this morning. During the meeting Lyonchhen said Bhutan is looking forward to a greater Japanese support to help grow more economically in the future.

A boy drowns in Paa Chu

A boy, 13, drowned yesterday after falling into Paa Chu from a suspension bridge in Paro. The accident had occurred at around 12 pm in Tsento Gewog.

The 8th annual Chhumig Monsoon Football tournament is underway in Bumthang. The tournament began on August 10. It is organised by the Chhumig MSS. Seventeen teams are taking part in the tournament. Team as far from Trongsa are also taking part. The organiser said in future they also plans to organise women’s football league. Meanwhile, the final is slated for September 1.
