Relocated households disappointed

Twelve households were relocated to Majwa village for the construction of airport in Samtenling Gewog, Gelegphu in 2011. The village lies near the airport, about three kilometres away from the Gelegphu-Sarpang highway. The people were promised safe drinking water and electricity within three months by the Dzongkhag. It has been almost two years after their relocation.

United Sikkim and Three Star enter semis

In the last match for Group B, United Sikkim FC defeated Thimphu City FC by two goals to nil, booking a place in the semi-finals of the King’s Cup.

The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) has launched an online licensing system.  The system will enable applicants to apply for new ICT and media licenses. It will also permit or renew licenses online.  It can be accessed at online.bicma.gov.bt and www.bicma.gov.bt respectively. The online licensing system is developed in line with the government’s policy of providing government services to the citizens using information and communication technology.

Sunflower: Bumthaps growing alternative cash crop

With declining potato yield, farmers in Bumthang are looking for an alternative to earn cash income. It is the sunflower. Our Bumthang reporter, Komal Kharka, says a large number of farmers in the Dzongkhag have taken up sunflower cultivation as the best alternative cash crop.

More Sikkimese take part in Bhutanese archery tournaments

These days it is not only the Bhutanese aiming the target in the archery tournaments. Dressed in their traditional attire, teams from Sikkim in India are a regular participants in the tournaments. If numbers are anything to go by, then for archers from Sikkim, taking part in archery tournaments in Bhutan has become growing trend.
