Chhuzanggang’s water woes

Residents in Chhuzanggang Gewog in Gelephu are facing shortage of drinking water. At present drinking water in the Gewog is supplied by the nearby Chiwog from another Gewog, Sherzhong Gewog. The residents said it would be convenient if the Gewog had a permanent water source.

The Bhutan Insurance Limited introduced “Insurance on Wheels”. This is the first of its kind to serve as a mobile insurance office. The insurance will provide easy access to insurance services and create more awareness on products and services. People can walk to the mobile office stationed at different locations at different times and avail themselves of the service.

Cabinet’s first sitting lifts pedestrian day

The first sitting of the Cabinet today decided to lift the pedestrian day with immediate effect. The decision came following a discussion that Pedestrian Day gave problems to general public especially in times of emergency and affected the business community.

National level task force formed to finalise ESP

In a move to finalise the Economic Stimulus Plan, ESP, which was prepared by the People’s Democratic Party, a national level task force has been formed. The Plan was submitted to the government for review.

Thimphu’s crime rate- 55.8%

With over a hundred thousand population Thimphu Dzongkhag records the highest crime rate of 55.8 percent. The records also show that Thimphu has the highest illegal drug transaction cases within 2009 to 2012.

Bamboo shoots shoot farmers’ income

Farmers in Zhemgang have been collecting bamboo shoots from the forests for personal consumption for ages now. The practice still exists. But now with more people demanding the farmers are collecting more for commercial purposes.

1st NA sitting of the 2nd Parliament held

The first sitting of the National Assembly of the 2nd Parliament was held today. The members also took oath or affirmation of the office. The Secretary General of the Assembly, Kinzang Wangdi, read out His Majesty’s Kasho to commence the first sitting of the Assembly.

DPL gets listed with RSEBL

Dungsam Polymers Limited (DPL), is now been listed with the Royal Security Exchange of Bhutan Limited (RSEBL). The DPL is the first company divested by Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) since its formation in 2007. The company now will be formally traded in the Bhutanese stock market.

A step closer to freedom, Part II

The 52 female prisoners who were sent to Dawakha in Paro as part of the open air prison programme have settled down and reliving their lives again. “It is as good as getting back to the society where we belong,” said one of the prisoners. It has been only three weeks and they said they have already started to experience a normal life.

Jigme Zangpo elected as the Speaker of NA

The Monggar MP-elect Jigme Zangpo has been elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly this morning. He was elected through secret ballot during the 1st sitting of the National Assembly of the 2nd Parliament of Bhutan. He secured 42 ‘Yes’ votes out of the 46 votes cast. One member abstained from the voting.
