Truckers petition against raised parking fee again

After their first petition for reconsideration of parking fees failed, the truckers in Phuentsholing have written to the Phuentsholing Thromde again, yesterday.

A raft out of pet bottles

Plastic bottles make up a huge part of waste that is generated in the country.  But “there are ways to make the most of every bottle’ – say students of Mendrelgang Middle Secondary School in Tsirang. And the school is not just providing lip-service. It has, in fact, built a raft using a little over 600 pet bottles that were thrown away.

The Monsoon Football Tournament in Haa kicked off yesterday coinciding with the World Environment Day. In the first match, White Dragon defeated United Haa with three goals to zero. In the second match, a team from Imtrat thrashed team Local Boys. Imtrat scored seven goals against Local Boys' one.

To recognize the skills of the craftsmen as well as to promote cultural heritage sites through their contribution, 96 Masons and Carpenters were awarded certificates by the Interim Government Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Human resources, Dasho Chewang Rinzin. These artisans are all working under the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong Conservation Project.

To mark the world environment day, students of Rangjung Higher Secondary School in Trashigang conducted a mass cleaning campaign in Rangjung town. Students also planted tree saplings and conducted awareness campaigns. The business community of Rangjung also joined in the programme.

Royal Textile Academy formally launched

The Royal Textile Academy was formally launched in the capital, today. The patron and Chairperson of the academy, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Sangay Choden Wangchuck, inaugurated the Academy.

A BHU without doctor

Bhutan to bear virtual torch until 10 pm

The virtual torch relay for the Second Asian Youth Games is passing through Bhutan. The officials from the Bhutan Olympic Committee visited schools in Thimphu and Paro, today, to tell students about the virtual relay.

ECB staff wins best author title

Sonam Tshering, a staff of the Election Commission of Bhutan, won the Best Author for his translation work titled ‘Tharpai Lam’. The book, which talks about the ways to achieve enlightenment through religion, took away the title from three other books selected for the competition.
