Nation-wide awareness programme on postal ballot

The Election Commission of Bhutan carried out a nation-wide awareness programme on postal ballot with armed force personnel and their families, today. Awareness creation was thought to be necessary after thousands of postal ballots were rejected during the National Council Elections.

Bhutan observes Olympic Day

Coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Third Druk Gyalpo, today, the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) observed its Olympic Day. This year, the event was organized at Gedu, Chhukha. His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee graced the event.

Increased number of Typhoid cases in SJ

Samdrup Jongkhar hospital is seeing an increased number of Typhoid cases. Rain and contaminated drinking water sources are being blamed for the increasing cases.

Chortens in Trongsa vandalised

Two chortens in Kaba in Nubi Gewog in Trongsa have been vandalised. The incident is suspected to have taken place Tuesday night.

Construction of a motorable bridge is being planned over Jaldaka River in Samtse. The bridge will benefit the people of Norgaygang gewog. Jalkada River, which flows between Norgaygang and Tendu, cuts Norgaygang from the rest of Samtse. The bridge construction would cost the government some Nu.1.7 million.

Poverty reduced by half in last five years

Only 12 percent of the Bhutanese population remains poor states the newly released Poverty Analysis Report. The report which suggests that almost 89,000 people of over 0.7 million Bhutanese is poor, points out that this is half the number since five years ago.

Bhutanese on a spending spree

The monthly consumption expenditure per person has almost doubled within the span of five years, according to the Bhutan Living Standards Survey 2012. 

DCT reveals seven candidates

Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT) revealed seven more candidates, today.
