Druk Chirwang Tshogpa reveals 15 more candidates

Druk Chirwang Tshogpa has revealed 15 more candidates taking the number of candidates revealed to 22. The party says they have 40 candidates confirmed and that they will reveal 10 more candidates next week.

Lone contender from Dagana for National Council

Dagana Dzongkhag has only one candidate from 14 gewogs contesting for the National Council election. Until yesterday, there were two contenders from Dagana vying for a seat in the National Council. However, one of the candidates from Goshi Gewog lost the nomination during the Gewog Zomdu. He secured only 83 yes votes. 103 voted no for his nomination.

Bangladesh Embassy observes 43rd Independence Day

The Bangladesh embassy in Thimphu observed Bangladesh's 43rd independence and national Day, today. The celebration began by hoisting of their National flag.  The celebration was followed by one minute silence and a special prayer.

Gelephu police detains two men for alleged rape of minors

The Gelephu police, today, detained two men aged 19 and 20 years for allegedly raping two minors.

10,900 acres of forest cover lost to forest fire

About 10,900 acres of forest cover was lost to fire in 2011 to 2012, a recent fire record states. Seven cases were recorded in Monggar, the highest among the dzongkhags, within the same span of time.

In the ongoing Thimphu Basketball league, Wizards took on Alligators yesterday evening. Wizards defeated Alligators by more than 30 baskets. The second match was played between Pazaps and Magics. Pazaps won the match with three baskets.

 

Sonam Tshering, 24, an avid cyclist in Bhutan, will participate in the third National Downhill Championship to be held at Hatiban in Nepal. The event will begin on 30th March.

The students of Samdrup Jongkhar Middle Secondary School attended a sensitization program on crime prevention, yesterday. The program was organized by the Samdrup Jongkhar police. They briefed the students on the roles and responsibilities of citizen and youth in conflict with the law.

A workshop, that officially introduces the credit cooperatives in Bhutan for the first time, began in Thimphu, today. The three-day workshop, ‘Organization and Management of Credit Cooperatives’ will focus on promotion and strengthening of credit cooperatives in the country.

His Majesty grants audience to students who received scholarship

His Majesty the King granted an audience to 12 students who received scholarship abroad at the Tashichhodzong, yesterday.
