Average economic growth rate at 8.8 percent: State of Nation Report

(State of the Nation Report) The Prime Minister, Jigmi Y Thinley, said the growth rate of the country’s economy has increased, significantly, in the last five years. Lyonchhoen, while presenting the State of the Nation report in the parliament yesterday, said from 5.7 percent GDP growth in 2008, the economic growth rate has increased to an average of about 8.8 percent.

Gol tenants in Phuentsholing asked to vacate

Eleven private tenants of the Gol building in Phuentsholing who were notified by the National Housing Development Corporation to vacate their apartments have not been able to in spite of repeated deadline extensions- the last of which was at the end of February.

17-year-old drowns

A 17-year-old girl drowned in Paro, on Sunday. A statement to the police reads, the victim had drowned during her second dive into the water.
