Construction of GNH centre delayed

The construction of Gross National Happiness (GNH) centre in Chhoekhor gewog under Bumthang Dzongkhag was to begin some six months ago. But it has been delayed due to change in the master plan of the centre and fund mobilisation.

Resa farm road construction progresses at a snail’s pace

If the number of years is anything to go by, it will take another seven years to finish constructing the 10 kilometre farm road at Resa in Monggar. In last three years, only about three kilometres of the road has been complete, much to the exasperation of the villagers.

58-year-old man dies in truck accident

A 58-year-old man died on the spot when the truck he was travelling in veered off road and fell some 130 metres below Yongla Pokto road at Layme under Trashigang Dzongkhag.

Druk Pol FC wins Thimphu Football League 2012

Druk Pol FC won the finals of this year’s Thimphu Football League today. The team was awarded a cash prize of Nu.100,000. Team Zimdra came in second place and team Yeedzin took the third place.

Girl child killed in an accident

A five-year-old girl child was killed when a DCM truck hit  her. The accident occurred at around 3 pm today at Changzamtog in Thimphu, near the fly over bridge. One of the witnesses said, the truck’s back tyre hit her while she was crossing the road. She succumbed to severe head injuries.

New buses meet International Safety Standards: BPC

The Bhutan Post Corporation (BPC) held a press conference to set the record straight that the 15 Chinese made buses were brought to Thimphu only after they met the International Safety Standards.

Trapped leopard released

A leopard that was trapped by the villagers of Kalapang, Monggar was released in the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park yesterday. Before the release, the animal was treated with antibiotics and ointment. While in captivity, the leopard had sustained some external injuries.

Gasa Dzongkhag finally opens to traffic

After exactly three months and 10 days, Gasa Dzongkhag finally opened to traffic today. The Dzongkhag was cut off from rest of the country after flash floods and landslides on June 20 washed away roads and two bridges.
