Truckers out of business

About 70 to 80 truckloads of gypsum are transported to Samdrup Jongkhar from Khothakpa in Pemagatshel every day. Despite the number, many trucks have been lying idle for over a month now.

Sports meet in Bumthang comes to an end

The annual Dzongkhag School sports meet of Bumthang ended yesterday. Over 600 students from different schools within the dzongkhag took part in the meet. The tournaments were hosted by Ura Middle Secondary School. During the meet, students competed in various indoor and outdoor events such as basketball, football, chess and table tennis.

Leased aircraft lands at Paro International Airport

The 138-seater Air Bus which was bought on lease by Drukair landed at Paro International Airport yesterday. Upon arrival at the airport, the officials on board were received by Lam Neten of Paro Rabdey, and Drukair officials. The monks then performed a Tashi Ngasol.

A two-day-long kid’s athletics seminar for the primary school teachers ended today. Teachers from Thimphu, Wangdue, Haa, Punakha, Bumthang, Tsirang and Sarpang took part in the programme.

Wangduephodrang’s Regional Sports Meet concludes

The two-day Regional Sports Meet in Wangduephodrang ended today. About 290 students from Gasa, Punakha and Wangduephodrang took part in the event. The event was held at Bajo Higher Secondary School. The event had games like football, table tennis, Badminton, basketball and chess, for both men and women.

La, Aum Lyonchhen, a media advocacy campaign launched

To encourage more women participation in politics, “La, Aum Lyonchhen” a media advocacy campaign was launched in the capital today. “La, Aum Lyonchhen” project is a continuation of an initiative, Inspiring Bhutanese Women to lead, which won the UNDP human development fellowship award 2010.

BAFRA to penalise local bakeries

The Food Testing Laboratory of the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) at Yusipang in Thimphu confirmed that 13 people admitted at Damphu hospital last month was due to food poisoning. These people had fallen sick after consuming food items from the local bakeries in Damphu town. The BAFRA officials in Tsirang said they will penalise and monitor the bakeries closely.
