New-system-for-heavy-vehicles-in-SJThe Thromde meeting of Samdrup Jongkhar decided that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the town area from 7am to 9am, and from 5pm to 8pm. Entry will be allowed during other hours.

Samdrup Jongkhar, earlier, did not have a set time for entry of heavy vehicles into the town area, but the recent Thromde meeting has put in place a system.

Previous practice saw heavy vehicles with load being allowed to enter the town area and vehicles without load not being allowed. In the absence of proper timing and rules, there were complications for drivers of heavy vehicles.

“There is no sign board saying “no entry” and when we need to buy stuff, we have to park our vehicles elsewhere,” said Kesang Dawa, a Truck Driver.

Another Truck Driver, Pema Dorji, said in other dzongkhags, there is a time for heavy vehicles to enter the town area. “But here, we are not allowed at any time. It would be convenient if there was a proper timing.”
