The developmental works of the new Gasa town are progressing as per plan. According to project officials, about sixty percent of the works have been completed so far. Spread over an area of more than sixty acres, the new Gasa Township will be ready by April next year.
The works began in November last year. Today, levelling the newly cleared roads and construction of retaining walls are complete.
The construction of footpaths and, internal and storm drainage systems are ongoing. The drains are more than 700-meters-long and 1.5-meters in depth.
“We are targeting to complete the developmental works as per the notice. Right now, we are carrying out the construction of the footpath, internal u-drain, and the main cutout drain which is up there in the jungle. After that, we will be doing the stone soling, granular base course, and laying of wet wix macadam” said Bimal Kafley, the Project Engineer with Tshering Tobgyel Construction.
The new town at Kolikha has 59 plots. The new township will also have five parking areas and a children’s park.
Until the completion of all basic infrastructures, the shopkeepers will not be allowed to construct houses in the new township area.
There are about 30 shopkeepers who received plots in the new town as land kidu from His Majesty The King. The old town is located on state land just below the Dzong. As per the dzongkhag’s plan, the old town will be developed into an institutional area.
Meanwhile, it was decided during the 11th Gasa Dzongkhag Tshogdu that the residents will be shifted to the new town by the end of December next year.
