The Economics and Finance Committee of the National Assembly proposed Nu 5 M for Parliament Committees and Secretariat services in the National Assembly today.
The recommendation was made during the third reading of the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the Financial year 2019-2020.
The Chairperson of the committee presented maintenance and repair works of National Assembly’s vehicles as one of the reasons for the need of budget. He said poor conditions of the vehicles affect their work while on tour.
“A new committee is being formed. Earlier there were 9 committees and now with the new sustainable development committee, it becomes 10. Also, the research officers carry out a lot of important responsibilities and they have to travel along with us. However, we have not been able to pay them due to limited budget,” said Kinley Wangchuk, the Chairperson for Economics and Finance Committee of the National Assembly.
The committee also recommended supplementary budget for a sum not exceeding Nu 903.277 M while the government earlier had proposed Nu 898.277 M. This is to meet the expenditure on account of revision of pay and allowances for Royal Bhutan Police, Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences and revision of stipend and subsidy to State-Owned Enterprises among others.
The Bill will be endorsed tomorrow.
